Britney Spears, who is fighting for custody of her two sons, saw her legal troubles mount yesterday after she was charged with hit-and-run driving and driving without a licence. If convicted, the singer could face up to six months in jail and a $1,000 (£495) fine for each count, said Nick Velasquez, of the Los Angeles attorney’s office.

The accident, which occurred at slow speed in a car park in Studio City in August, was filmed by paparazzi and later posted on a website. After inspecting the damage to her Mercedes convertible, Spears, 25, was shown walking away.

Three days later Kim Robard-Rifkin, the owner of the other car and a nurse, complained to police. It was found Spears did not have a licence. Robard-Rifkin, 59, only discovered it was Spears who had hit her car when she saw the video. She said she was “sort of amused and sort of shocked” when she learnt who had caused the damage, adding that she had expected to hear from the star. “I simply want my car fixed, the same as I would fix somebody’s car if I had done that,” she said.

The new case may be a blow to Spears’s efforts to keep custody of her children following her divorce from Kevin Federline last year.

Last week she was ordered by Judge Scott Gordon, who will decide on custody, to undergo twice weekly random testing after ruling her “a frequent and continuous” user of alcohol and drugs.

It always amazes me how they can call stuff like this a hit and run! It was at slow speed and the damage was probably minimal! The most likely reson she didnt report it is because she was afraid what the press and everybody would make of it. Its not that important – its not like she actually ran someone over. And if the judge doesnt give the kids to her (Shes richer and can so easily look after them better) then they need their head testing! DONT WORRY BRITNEY!

Afroditi, not ONLY because she didn’t have a license. By LAW she SHOULDN’T have been driving. Personally, I feel she should be harshly penalized because she WALKED AWAY obviously assuming she is ABOVE THE LAW.

people need to leave her alone there was no damage on the other vehicle you can see that in the video, and if so why would she park the car right next to the other vehicle. Also look how close the paparazzi where there was hardly no room because of them she cant make normal mistakes in this world it is so sad

“Hit and Run” is when someone hits a pedestrian and disappears. This is hardly really a hit and run, while it may be some sort of avoidance on her part. She is a normal human being, and probably has a heck of a lot on her mind. Here’s one thing for sure: if the fans care so much about her, why do they post these sort of things which will only make her chances of custody far worse? It’s just not really very clever from her fans.

Hit and Run??? Are those prosecutors and police blind? Or have they forgotten the definition of hit and run? The problem with some people is that they intentionally ignore the circumstances surrounding an accident. The reason – because the person involved was once guilty and charged with other crimes. Remember to always give anybody the benefit of the doubt and to say they’re guilty only when proven.
