Britney Spears returns to Ellle magazine in the January 2010 edition. Below taken from the Elle website: A decade after her titillating debut in pigtails and a plaid Catholic school skirt, we find ourselves cheering on Britney Spears once again. There have been, of course, speed bumps in recent years – a divorce, feuds with family, a very public breakdown – but the past 12 months have witnessed a cautious yet emphatic comeback. With Circus, her triumphant 2008 album and subsequent world tour, Britney reasserted herself as a pop music ringleader, firmly in control of the spectacle. The album is the star’s fifth to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 – making her the youngest woman to accomplish that feat. And the nearly yearlong tour, with its elaborate $50 million extravaganza featuring DSquared2 costumes (nine outfit changes a night, including Britney as a trapeze artist, a magician’s assistant, and, somewhat perplexingly, a policewoman), was among the highest-grossing concert tours in the United States last year, rivaling those of U2 and Bruce Springsteen. With another greatest-hits record freshly arrived (and a new single, “3,” which raced up the Billboard chart), we see flashes of vintage Brit, the one we love – blond, happy, and back on top. Britney Spears has settled a court case with a photographer who claimed she ran over his foot. Ricardo Mendoza accused the singer of assault, battery and negligently driving her car in Beverly Hills in 2007. The incident happened on the same day Spears lost custody of her two sons. Court records in Los Angeles show a settlement notice was filed on Monday (October 19). Details of the settlement have not been disclosed. Mr Mendoza was working for Hollywood-based showbiz website TMZ at the time. The site auctioned his tyre-stained sock off to the singer’s fans and donated the proceeds to charity. | Billboard reports Britney Spears became the first artist in over three years to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, when Britney’s new single (released Oct. 15th), “3″ opens at the pinnacle of the chart. Her new track, a racy paean to the joys of three-way sex from the upcoming hits set “The Singles Collection,” due Nov. 24, shifts 255,000 downloads in its first week of release, also propelling it to No. 1 on Digital Songs. The title also jumps 38-25 on the Pop Songs chart and debuts at No. 49 on Radio Songs/Hot 100 Airplay, which ranks songs based on airplay audience on all radio formats.
“3″ is the first title to debut at No. 1 since Taylor Hicks’ “American Idol” victory song “Do I Make You Proud” did so on the chart dated July 1, 2006. In fact, the last four songs to open at No. 1 were all “American Idol”-related. Prior to Hicks, Carrie Underwood’s “Inside Your Heaven” (July 2, 2005), “I Believe” by Fantasia (July 10, 2004) and Clay Aiken’s “This Is The Night” each debuted at No. 1. The last non-”Idol” song to open at No. 1 was Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop (That Thing)” on Nov. 14, 1998. “3″ is Spears’ third Hot 100 No. 1. Her debut single “…Baby One More Time” spent two weeks at No. 1 in 1999 and “Womanizer” spent a “sole frame at the top, exactly one year ago this week, on the chart dated Oct. 25, 2008.
